Saying Goodbye to Contact Us: WebP Cloud Launches Transparent Enterprise Pricing and New Billing Weight System

Before we knew it, WebP Cloud turned two and a half years old.

In the past two and a half years, we have gained a massive number of users and extremely valuable feedback. It is these voices that have helped us continuously build and tune the system, realizing one feature after another that users truly want. throughout this process, we have always stuck to our original intention: “No financing, no profit pressure, persist in doing the right thing,” and without affecting service stability, we continue to explore technical boundaries and practice various novel ideas on the product.

As WebP Cloud grows, more and more enterprises and companies have begun to use it as infrastructure for their production environments. However, we realized there was a disconnect in the original pricing system on our official website: currently, the highest self-service tier available, the Plus Plan, only offers a daily quota of 30,000 requests, which appears stretched thin for enterprise-level demands.

In the past, enterprise users could often only see a “Custom Plan” and a “Contact Us” button. Through communication with an increasing number of enterprise users, we understood that for decision-makers pursuing efficiency, this often implies huge hidden communication costs and uncertainty.

We believe that good commercial products should be as transparent and accessible as water.

Business Lite: Self-Service Enterprise Solution

After extensive internal research and discussion, the self-service enterprise solution aimed at filling the gap between the “Personal Version” and the “Custom Version”—Business Lite—is officially live.

It is designed specifically for growing enterprises and high-traffic sites, featuring the following core characteristics:

  • Massive Request Quota: Monthly 12,000,000 (12 million) request units (converts to approximately 400,000 requests per day).
  • Enterprise-Grade Cache Pool: Supports creating 20 Proxies, and enjoys 100GB cache space per Proxy.
  • Transparent Pricing: $99 USD / month.

To provide enterprise users with extreme flexibility, we refuse rigid bundling and have synchronously launched Business Exclusive Add-ons:

  • Business Volume Pack: Includes 1,000,000 request quota valid permanently.
    • Pricing: $15 USD / time.

Business Plus: Customization and Exclusive Services

Of course, if you have higher requirements for infrastructure, or need us to integrate WebP Cloud deeply into your complex architecture, we have launched the higher-level Business Plus plan.

Starting Price: $499 USD / month (requires contacting us to sign).

Compared to the self-service Lite plan, Business Plus includes more “human” services and “architectural” flexibility:

  1. 1:1 High-Priority Response Group

Although we have public Telegram groups and emails to serve all users. However, if an enterprise has extra customization needs, Plus customers will have an exclusive Telegram/Slack support group, connecting directly with our core engineers.

  2. TB-Level Cache and Large Customer Discounts

Supports TB-level ultra-large cache pool customization, and enjoys more favorable “wholesale prices” for request quotas and storage.

  3. Deep Customization Services (Custom Solutions)

We will become your Extended DevOps Team, deploying/developing private components, reverse proxies, or special logic for you.

Case Study: Folo

Our partner Folo is the best practitioner of the future Business Plus model (as we had not yet launched the Business Plan during our collaboration). They faced complex origin fetching and avatar processing needs, which standardized Proxies could not directly satisfy.

We deployed an exclusive custom origin fetch service and a privately customized Unavatar service for Folo, handling almost all image business on the Folo platform. This move directly helped Folo save a significant amount of internal Infra manpower investment, while significantly optimizing their computing power and traffic overhead.

Cache Addon

In addition, addressing the widespread need for cache expansion among all users (including personal versions), we have launched the self-service Cache Add-on:

  • Cache Addon: Adds 100GB cache space to a specified Proxy, supports stacking.
    • Pricing: $20 USD / month, multiple can be stacked on a single Proxy.

Evolution of the Billing System: Introducing “Billing Multipliers”

Besides the new packages, we have also brought an important underlying upgrade—a load-based billing weight system.

Just as we described in the article “WebP Cloud Introduces Mode Selection — Rapid (Instant Optimization) and Consistency (Eventual Optimization Mode)”, different request types consume vastly different amounts of computing power in the WebP Cloud system:

  1. Rapid Mode: Requires real-time blocking processing, occupying expensive real-time computing power, ensuring “optimization on first screen”.
  2. Consistency Mode: Utilizes idle-time computing queues for processing, peak shaving and valley filling, with lower costs.
  3. Meta Requests: Only extracts JSON information, resource consumption is extremely low.
  4. Cache Hit: Only consumes bandwidth, occupies almost no computing resources.

In the old system, all requests were treated “equally” and counted as 1, which was obviously not fair enough, nor could it reflect the value of caching. Users would often ask:

  • “Since everything counts as 1, why should I optimize cache hit rates?”
  • “If Rapid and Consistency are exactly the same, why do I need to choose Consistency?”

To make the pricing model closer to real resource consumption, and to reward high-quality caching strategies (which helps reduce costs for both users and us, win-win), we have adjusted the consumption logic for request counts as follows:

We hope to encourage users to make good use of WebP Cloud’s powerful edge caching. Therefore, all Cache Hit requests consume only 0.5 quota. This means that in a fully static distribution scenario, after sufficient cache warming, the Business Lite package can actually support nearly 24 million visits!

Detailed Multiplier Table

Business Plan Users:

  • Cache Hit: 0.5x (Storage + Traffic overhead)
  • Meta Request: 0.3x (Developer friendly)
  • Consistency Miss: 1x (Standard benchmark)
  • Rapid Miss: 5x (High concurrency compute demand in enterprise scenarios)

Personal Plan Users:

  • Cache Hit: 0.5x (Storage + Traffic overhead)
  • Cache Miss: 1x (We need to ensure existing users get an experience consistent with the present)
  • Meta Request: 0.3x (Developer friendly)

Through this brand-new billing logic, we hope to achieve true “pay for value”: operations that save bandwidth and computing power for you are cheaper, while high-value real-time computing services have a reasonable pricing basis, thereby supporting WebP Cloud to go further.

So…

The two and a half years WebP Cloud has traveled is a process of growing together with our users. The Business Lite plan ($99/mo) launched today and the multiplier billing features that better fit different user scenarios represent an important reconstruction of our commercialization.

As a technology-driven team, this is our first attempt to “standardize” complex enterprise needs. Although we have conducted extensive calculations internally, we know deep down that real-world business scenarios are far more complex than models. Therefore, we are launching this scheme with a “public beta launch” mindset.

If you feel this model has a Bug in your scenario, or the pricing logic needs optimization, please tell us directly. We are ready to iterate quickly based on everyone’s feedback, just like fixing our code.

That’s all.

The WebP Cloud Services team is a small team of three individuals from Shanghai and Malmö. Since we are not funded and have no profit pressure, we remain committed to doing what we believe is right. We strive to do our best within the scope of our resources and capabilities. We also engage in various activities without affecting the services we provide to the public, and we continuously explore novel ideas in our products.
